Are we good enough?
Don't know if it's too early in the season already, but are we good enough to stay up by gaining sufficient points ourselves of do we need other teams to be bigger failures, e.g.: Cardiff, Southampton etc. ?

Re: Are we good enough?
Dont think I can remember a recent season where we havent lost a key player or a player in form to long term injury. Most of them either dont come back or struggle to regain the form they had prior. Its a constant curse. I dont see this at other clubs or maybe they have such depth it goes unnoticed like at Liverpool where the likes of Lallana and Sturridge are out for ages but it doesnt change much.

I see Declan Rice is thanking the fans for their "inspiration", fuck me if that is the players inspired I'd hate to see the alternative

I like our style of play now,but we have got to start to score our chances. But we are very vulnerable to the counter attack due to this style. Which unfortunately suites the more defensive set up teams. We play our best against teams playing attacking type football.

Re: Are we good enough?

Us flirting with relegation gets us more (free) TV exposure than does us bobbing about mid-table.

More TV exposure = more potential advertising revenue and a better stadium sponsor.

Premier League football is THE brand, and we're just another flavour of that brand.

---

If revenue is the priority then I believe we'll get more money from finishing higher up in the league.

1. The prize/merit money is an extra £500,000 per premier league place.
2. The lower the threat of relegation then surely the more likely someone will want to sponsor the stadium for a relatively safe premier league team?

I don't think there are any financial benefits in being in a relegation fight compared to mid table.

You’ve got a cheek calling anyone ‘kneejerk’, Sir Alf. Didn’t you want Pellegrini out after three games or something?

Re: Are we good enough?
60 years following West Ham and 7 maybe 8 decent seasons to remember.

Pellegrini's approach is correct but its obvious he is trying to get us to play a passing game without the squad to make it very successful. But thats because it was always going to take time. This first season is hopefully the hardest and riskiest because of the mindset of existing players and their lack of technique etc.. but the key will be the next summer window and the realisation from "Knee jerk Sullivan" that it will take several years of wise investment to build the strength and depth or "platform" for a top end of the table team.

Pellegrini is arguably trying to move us too fast but he knows his method and system and is sticking with it. The likes of Cresswell, Obiang, Reid, Carroll, Masuaka, Antonio to name a few, don't fit with it IMO mostly for reasons of technique ( lack of ) or pace/strength.Others like Noble and Zab fit the latter category.

We need to bring in or promote players that fit the new system but over time.

Moyes was more pragmatic and put organisation and defence first but his demeanour and that approach got him grouped with Allardyce. Pellegrini is more expansive and with that is the risk of conceding. The inability to take chances is proving costly in terms of points thats for sure.

IMHO we are not currently good enough ( dont have the players as mentioned) to get much further in terms of league position ( far less words than the diatribe above) :-) Will take another season or 2 to see real improvements. So I hope Pellegrini can buy himself some time by steering clear of a relegation fight.

We are what we are, hopeful and ultimately disappointing - it's never been any different. If you want a different experience, support a different team!

Re: Are we good enough?
We have constantly struggled, apart from about half a dozen seasons, during my 46 years of following this club. It doesn’t matter who manages, owns or plays for us, It will never change.

This is the true ‘West Ham Way’ 😉

Re: Are we good enough?
We are good enough for lower mid table. I actually think we are playing well now but without scoring the goals our approach play deserves. Also, as per usual we are desperately unlucky with injuries. We need to build on what we have to be a consistent top half side. Expecting better next season so long as we retain key players and make the right signings.

is that what we want though costa,am sick and tired of the constant struggle flirting with relegation every season worrying if we can scrape 36 points to survive and keep looking out for shit teams around us to see how they are getting on.

Its not fucking rocket science to point out that years of serious underinvestment will not be resolved in 1 transfer window.

These cunts have pocketted royally from us and are the only people responsible for where we are

clearly stated what I was on about

we have played all last seasons top 9 in our first 13 games

I seriously doubt anyone else has

Re: Are we good enough?
Eggbert Nobacon. the hardest set of fixtures you could ask for

What are you on about mate, Brighton, Huddersfield, Wolves, Bournemouth and Leicester from which we managed 2 whole points. And now we have seven of those types of teams coming up. Anyone confident that it's going to get that much better, i'm not

Re: Are we good enough?
If the team show the same consistency and level of play we´ve produced so far in the first third of the season then we´ll probably end on around 36 pts so we have to hope thats good enough i suppose!

Are we good enough? .....probably not but there are 3 shitter teams this season. The bottom half is filled with shit

Next 7 games define our season

Re: Are we good enough?
We make such hard work of it against teams we should be beating comfortably. And we always seem to face them when they've just turned the corner or appointed a new manager.

See Newcastle and Fulham as upcoming examples.

I predict this time next week the site will be in absolute meltdown once we've lost at St James and only taken a point against a resolute Cardiff who have held us to a goalless borefest.

We are bang average at best and always will be as long as Gold and Sullivan are here.
They are totally incapable of moving us forward, amateurs .
